Working on the ratchet system, flatten a brass wire to make the spring and it is strong enough to use for the ratchet,
Now drilling a few holes in the brass cross / reel foot holder to make it work

When the ratchet is completed and working i cover the back from the back plate with the inlay i made before and cover it up with epoxy to get a nice shiny layer, the most difficult part i keep for the end, place the pin correctly in the brass reel foot holder, it is a very Precise job. fingers crossed.

First layer epoxy is on the back plate and i think it is going to look wonderful after the second layer
Next step is sanding it with very fine sanding paper

I put the parts to gather for a few tests and pleased with the result so far, Adjustments must be done now to make the reel spin nicely and will take some time to get the best results, at the first test it spins freely and that is a good sign :-). the final polishing and epoxy layer will finish the reel
i used 86 parts to make the reel and perhaps you think i am
but i love to do this

That really is very good indeed Evert..Well done!
You should be justly proud of that-and I know that your next one will be even better.
My first effort was nowhere near that standard..in fact, it was so poor, I never bothered to even finish it.
You must post a picture of its first capture.
Again, many congratulations!

Did you scratch build the locomotives also?
