I waited with the holes be course the bottom ring is smaller then the top ring, the bottom ring must fit in the back plate, i use a center before i make the drill the holes, it is a very tricky job and i want it perfect :-) . when i start drilling the holes i attach the ring to a wood plate under the pillar drill and start with a small size drill after that i like to use this special drill to make the holes biggerWallys-Cast wrote: ↑Sat Apr 15, 2017 8:45 pm Coming along very nicely Evert, well done.
I wouldn't know where to start but I think I would have drilled the pillar holes before parting the two plates just to make sure they lined up correctly but no doubt you have a cunning plan.
The hub will probably be the most tricky part to make, really looking forward to seeing this progress.
Wal.

The hub , pin and spokes are difficult parts to make but will sort it out no matter how long it takes, for every thing is a first time. i think i will make a hub and pin system like the Allcocks ventilated Aerial reel, not easy but can be done ..... i think :-)

I made this reel foot, not easy but it looks good so far
I used a 18 mm Ball nose tool to get the hollow shape in the reel foot and works fine

Try to figure out if i could use the system from the Mordex Merlin i think it is possible with a few Additions but will also try to make the classic model pin holder
Made a few holes in the top ring and space for the knobs with a small iron file, drilling out the holes was not easy but used normal drill bits from small to a bigger size in four steps.
Next thing is making the pin holder and line pillars to connect the two rings to a spool and will take some time
