Martin James Shannon

I have a cane rod with no transfer, just the handwritten inscription "Martin James Shannon MADE WITH PRIMACANE"
Can anyone tell me anything about the rod and its maker? It is a 3 piece salmon fly rod ( I think!) missing the top 6 inches, and appears to have been a good quality item, with reinforced splint-end ferrules. I know the butt section is hollow built because when I aquired the rod 20 years ago the cane was coming apart just below the bottom ferrule, and I removed the ferrule and glued it back together.
