Marvella

Post by Wallys-Cast »

Hoping to find some information about a rod I am about to start renovating.

The rod is a two piece and 10ft - 2in long and is very much like a MKIV carp rod.

The makers label says "Fishing Rods & Tackle" MARVELLA "The Central Fishing Tackle Supply Co, 225 Westminster Bridge Road SE1.
The upper spiraled label is almost gone but I think it was possibly just a retailers label.
The handle is 23 1/2" long including rubber button. Whipped in pale green with old gold inters.
The cane sections are dark and slightly thinner in the butt than a B James MKIV but similar in size for the tip section.

Any information about the rod or the maker would be greatly appreciated.

Wal.

A few pics of the rod as original. I have included a picture of the ferrule as it looks quite a bit different to any I have seen before and may shed some light on the maker.

Andrews of Arcadia - have details of "Marvella" rod makers - they however were not SE1 but E8 - Kingsland Road!

Marvella the rod - OR - Marvella the rod makers?

Thanks for the link Russ I am sure there will be a connection there somewhere, I wish there was more detail left on the upper label.

Thanks Olly, I suppose they could have moved premises. Not certain if Marvella is the rod or the makers name of course.

I feel sure I have seen Marvella in a tackle advert somewhere, probably in an old angling mag, I'll have to dig them out and have a flick through them.

There was a bit of a thread about this rod on here when I bought it.
Great to see it photographed on the hallowed block paving, awaiting restoration by the master!

It was described as being a Pike rod on eBay, (which it isn't) and I think I might have been a bit over optimistic about the strength.

For what it's worth, Wal, looking at the label, I'm sure you've already worked out that it says 'Tackle Specialists' and '...on-Thames' maybe?
