Cumings....Knockabout

Post by Tizer »

Hello all ,I got this rod at a boot sale today,I was over the moon when i saw it,a split cane rod in good condition for 10 quid, happy days, can anyone tell me anything about it please,it is a 3 piece rod,12ft the eyes are what i think you call snake eyes except for the butt and tip, there is a transfer on it which is a bit damaged, but i think it says cumings and there is some writing on it which i think says 'knockabout'.The cork handle is 21" and has one of the reel fittings fixed about 6" from the bottom,I was hoping i could use it for tench fishing or float fishing, but I am wondering if it is a fly fishing rod.Any thoughts please.

With snake eyes Tizer, I would suggest it's a salmon rod. The longish handle implies it may be a salmon fly rod and they can, with a bit of fettling, be used for other species.

I can't help you, it's well beyond my knowledge. But a sound piece of cane for 10 quid is great no matter what kind of rod it is!
