The whipping from the cork down to the cane is unusual. Would it have been like that when the rod was first built?

That is an approximation of the whipping the rod had when it arrived with me MD, Sir, with the whipping taking the place of a metal ring ... but whether it was original I cannot say.

A similar idea to the early Lucky Strike. I suppose the ladies in the factory would have found it quick and easy to do, not to mention, cheap.
