Very wise. What if a pike takes it, gets a lure stuck in it so it cannot feed and then bites through the mainline? That would be a very sad and slow death for the poor old pike.

I don't know or care what my club rules are. I will always use a trace when spinning.

6lb mono will be fine as suggested by others. More important is the thickness of trace wire. For perch I use 10lb drennan super soft wire. It's so fine and supple you can knot it! And it will easily handle the odd pike!
