I don't think this is an Olivers

Ted never did whips that thick, nor did his 10 foot Avon come with a separate handle, so it's not one of his kits either.

He did sell his firm, but as far as I am aware Peter Johnsone, the new owner, doesn't do whips like that either, not offer kits..........

I fear someone has paid a lot of money for nothing more than a name in felt tip ink.

There's been a few dodgy ones on there lately, I was looking at one rod last night but i'm sure it was two different rods in the two photos. I think the first rod was a black seal but then there was a cheaper rod in the second photo.

God never did make a more calm, quiet, innocent recreation than angling.

It was this one and he's now changed the photo's, deleted the second one and added more of the rod that was in the title.

May just be me but I could swear the second photo was of a rod that had flamed cane on it.

The two photos thing seems to happen a lot, I don't know why.

I've listed some stuff myself lately and you only have to hover your mouse on an image, as the seller, to open a 'remove it' window.

I've also just remembered that Ted Oliver called the Avon a Mark V anyway, probably since it was so different to the Mark IV.

Can't believe how much this sold for, top end for a really good equivalent from B James.

I bid what I thought was a reasonable price for a cane Avon rod - but it would appear that the "Olivers label" doubled my offer!

I thought it totally false. I had a telling waggle of an Oliver's MkV Avon, and for me it was the best rod of it's type that I'd ever come across.
