Aero Wizard

Post by Crucian »

Purchased an Aero Wizard 906 from a good friend and fellow forum member today.

It's a lovely rod and one I've always fancied. The butt and middle sections are in good order, the cane is excellent and showing no sign of delamination...The tip however, has been replaced at some point with hollow glass.

I wish to make a new tip section for it but don't have the tapers. I have looked at my Allcocks Wizards, but the Aspindales is a much more powerful rod.

All I need is the size of the thin end of the tip as I am fairly sure it would be a straight taper, possibly part hollow built?

Any help much appreciated.

Just measure it across the flats Olly and graph it out, I can lend you a micrometre if need be, I'm only ten minutes away. :Hat:

Well I ordered and paid for a Vernier Caliper and the order seems to have gone **** up! :Cursing: I have now opened a dispute with the seller so ---

1) a new one will arrive very shortly
2) I get a refund hopefully
3) I will go down to the local shop and buy one over the counter!!!

Sorry for the delay!

Thanks Olly, no apology due.
I'm in no hurry. The cane's roughed out and ready for heat treatment. Building an oven this week and will need to finish that before planing to final tapers.

Ok - now sorted!

So you need the tapers for tip section? Maybe good to measure the middle section as well.

I will get onto it in the next couple of days.

Middle section from butt ferrule towards tip section
6cm from middle section end - 11.2mm -
40cm " " " " - 10.0
80cm " " " " - 8.3
just before ferrule - 7.1

Tip section
@ 5cm = 6.8
@ 30cm = 6.2
@45cm = 5.4
@60cm = 4.6
@70cm = 4.3
@80cm = 3.8
@90cm = 3.5
@100cm = 2.9
@110cm = 2.6

Hope that makes sense! And helps. Olly
