Bernard Venables Mr Crabtree Goes Fishing Poster

Post by MrCrabtree »

Having just read some of our members comments on BV I wondered if any of them have the same poster as I have on my study wall.
The poster is for a book signing in Salisbury for the 7th October (I presume 2000) for the 50th anniversary edition of Mr Crabtree Goes Fishing.
The poster is laminated and very large measuring 35" x 25".
I originally spotted the poster hanging behind the counter of a Salisbury bookshop in 2003. I asked the owner if I could purchase it. His reply was no to the one on show but he had a remaining copy stored away which he sold to me for £15. I had it framed in black wood and it has been on my wall since then. It is starting to fade slightly but I have no intention of hiding it away.

Hopefully the photo image will be ok.

I like that a lot,it captures the book contents and inspires further investigation.

From memory I had a copy as a youngster, but no doubt ended up in a school jumble sale!

I do have the anniversary edition.

Thank you for sharing.

I have never seen this poster. It is fabulous. I am very envious.

Do I love that poster or what!! You have a smashing item there and I also am very envious of you. The frame you have chosen sets it off just right but I must add it would look better on one of my walls  :Thumb:

That is a fabulous poster. In fact some recent references to BV have inspired me to read the sacred tome again this last week. It is a wonderful book and I can see why it inspired so many of us so many years ago. Even Peter wears a tie to go fishing....
I've got an Ivan Marks book on the go, another by Tony Miles and I'm just looking something up from Barrie Rickards biography of the late, great Dick Walker.

I like to make a page of notes from high practical fishing content books like the first two mentioned and then I type them up on the pc in bullet point format.

Great reference material - Ivan says always use the black casters......fish for bites ....if you see me using anything bigger than a size 16 go away and put your house on me.....catching on a size 14 feels like gaffing 'em....
Trouble is, the fish just don't read the books......

The book signing was on 7/10/2000 at the Cross Keys bookshop. I was there. The proprietor was a keen angler. The shop is no longer a bookshop.
