Raise a glass to BB

Post by Hannay »

The great man was born on this day 108 years ago. I hope many glasses will be raised this evening or even a few pages read.

I'll be finnishing Confessions and raising a glass to the great man. :Hat:

God never did make a more calm, quiet, innocent recreation than angling.

108 years ago if the calendar is correct
Chance is always powerful. Let your hook be always cast; in the pool where you least expect it, there will be a fish

Wonderful writer, reading his books had a great impact on how I looked at life. Sadly missed.
To enjoy our sport as it should be enjoyed, our surroundings must be beautiful, for your true angler enjoys nature as much as he enjoys fishing. "BB"

Good call Hannay, Albert Buckley last night and BB tonight. :Thumb:

Whilst raising my glass to Albert I had B.B.'s 'The Fisherman's Bedside Book' (I do love that book) open in front of me whilst I once again read his intro' and then Albert's account of his record carp.

A boozy week indeed :huray:

Its strange how history throws certain people to greatness whilst the vast majority can only admire and try to emulate. Of course, had a roach nicked the bait off Mr Buckley's carp or Pete Thomas had landed the 44 everything would now be different, its often just right place right time. Not that this in any way lessens their contributions to our sport - far from it - I just oive the way our entire existence is the culmination of a mass of coincidence.

The most precious places in the English landscape are those secretive corners,
where you find only elder trees, nettles and dreams. (BB - Denys Watkins-Pitchford).

Too true. I did visit his house a while after he died and the people who live in it now said that they heard a great deal about and the one thing that stood out was that he loved having visitors and was always ready to entertain guests with stories of the past. Sadly a chance missed.

Now I need to raise another glass ( hic) - if we keep finding good reasons to toast this regularly I'll never get out on the bank for an dawn start
