Match Aerial Ratchet Left to Right Handed?

Post by Santiago »

I have acquired a Match Aerial in really good condition but the ratchet is set for left handed use. Is it possible to convert to right handed? If so how?

A previous owner inscribed their name on the rim. The name being R. B Warburton.???

I am guessing that by "Left-Handed", you mean that the rod is held, not the reel wound, with the left hand? That would be the normal factory setting as most anglers wound centrepins with the right hand then.

You could try reversing the check pawl. This is best and easiest done by removing the spring first by unscrewing the fine slotted screw on the outside and removing the spring and pillar boss. Note which way around the pawl currently is fitted. slide the pawl out, turn it over and refit the spring assembly.

Pawls are often ground so that they only work one way but try it and see..
