The difference between them is that a Rapidex has a caged construction (think of this as a built in line guard) and the Trudex is open with a removable line guard.

It just boils down to your preference really as they are both fine reels.

Have you got any forum members living nearby that might let you handle one or both ?

Richard, I can lend you a Trudex and a Rapidex to try out if you like?

Indeed he has. I've got a rapidex here you can borrow and try if you like.

That is a very kind offer from both of you and typical of the members on the TFF but , i think i may purchase a Trudex mainly because as shed-monkey as said they have a removable line guard ,i do have a modern centrepin at the moment and have never had a line guard on it and never had problems , the reason i am after another centrepin is because i would like a narrower pin

Have to say, I do prefer the Trudex!

They're certainly good reels and I find them ideally suited to crucian fishing and the like. However, it should be said that all the ones I've owned haven't had the feel of an aerial. Personally if your looking to a reel to trot with I'd say the match aerial with its larger spool and better retrieve is FAR superior.
