Re: Quiet Rapidex
Try rotating the triangular piece of metal that engages with the cog that makes the noise (I'm not technical either) this is always assuming you never removed anything and you just haven't just disengaged the ratchet lever.
There are three things that improve with age: wine, friendship and water sense, and there's no short cut.

Re: Quiet Rapidex
The two key questions are:
Have you removed the spring or the triangular pawl?
Have you greased the toothed wheel that the pawl engages on to make the click?
If you've removed the spring then you've either bent it so it puts less pressure on the pawl, or you've either put the pawl back upside down or it's not fully in position.
You can increase the spring pressure on the pawl by carefully bending two legs apart slightly.
Also does the reel spin OK when the ratchet is off?

Haven’t touched anything .. spins great .. so thinking need to clean off the grease on the toothed wheel .. what do you suggest to do that “gunk” motor engine cleaner?

Re: Quiet Rapidex
I just use neat washing up liquid with a stencil brush (or similar) to work it in.

Re: Quiet Rapidex
It sounds, see what the Mole has done there, you have been a little over liberal with the grease
Like all things the solution is simple......wipe the excess off with bog paper or Kitchen Roll......it really is that simple
Never understood why some over complicate any solution to an obvious answer. Let us all know what you do Sharkboy and more importantly, if it works.

Re: Quiet Rapidex
Sharkboy does your pawl look like this as this old reel has a very strong click. The rounded edge of pawl goes against the spring.
