Another bedraggled specimen drags himself aboard...
Good morning, Gentlefolk.
Seeking calmer waters than the green-eyed-monster-thrashed foam that most of the fishing forumscape seems to have become; this, along with the gloriously soft-focus PBTW, seems a tranquil eddy round which to bob!
I'm not the most traditional of fisherman, and cheerfully deploy glass and carbon as well as my beloved cane rods, but I am something of a 'pin-head; driven to it by the non-availability of decent right-hand-wind fixed spool reels (I have Mitchell 209's and Abu 664's 665's, Dragmasters, etc., and a blessing they are, too, but their short little spools rather preclude long-range casting).
In particular, I'm fond of Trudexes and Rapidexes.
Canes in current use: Nottingham patterns by Harcol and Devanney; all-built-cane by Rodrill and Black Seal; "Bottom" rods by Milbro, plus a little Milbro with a spliced-in built-cane tip will probably soon be coming "scratching". Nothing "Big Label"; as soon as I get my hands on something precious, it has an accident, so I've abandoned the path of the tackle tart, and do what I can with the run of the mill.
If you are in South Herts/Essex and see a beardy muttering to itself in what looks like the site of an explosion in a small, fishing-tackle-based charity-shop, that's probably me. If the bloke next door is tearing his hair out with rage and exasperation and turning the air blue even if he's catching, then the beardy one is almost certainly me!
Hope to post more soon, but SWMBO has the gorillas in today to paint the front room, and I must absent myself.
Smelly nets,
Vole.

Welcome Vole from a fellow beard wearer.
It might be worth contacting Chris Ball via this site, as on our recent visit to his carp room I discovered he is also left handed and has a vast collection of old reels, perhaps he could suggest a suitable one.
Smelly nets to you too!

Hello Vole, love the Thelwell-ian image of the tackle explosion.
Rejoice in the lack of reference to baitboats, appetite stimulants, spod rockets, remote alarm receivers etc and other modern ills.

Hello Vole. Sounds like you may frequent my old haunts. Lea and Beane in Hartham Park? Gade at Cassiobury? Aldenham? God forbid, Cook's Ferry?
