When they replied "we haven't stocked those for years," I hope you countered with "What is a rig, anyway?" or "why do I need an expensive electronic bite indicator to do the same job as the cap from a bottle of Fairy Liquid?" If you think along these lines, you're in very good company on this forum.

The good angler is not the one with expensive equipment. Common sense, observation and trying to realize
what is happening above and below water will catch fish no matter what price equipment you fish with.

Welcome Penrhos. The old ways are still the best ways; less stress I believe.
What's wrong with a Mitchell reel? They are as good today as they ever was. Back in the early 70's, Mitchell reels were the reel to own here in the USA. If you didn't have a Mitchell reel, and Eagle Claw hooks, you were made fun at from the others. But back then, the ones making fun of someone weren't traditional fishermen anymore because they got pulled into the new shiny toys the world said we all just had to have. It's a vicious circle.
