Thank you all for welcome and comments on reels , I have a few pins already ,was more interested in the fixed spool suggestions I was torn between the Mitchell and the ABU families , but my wife has settled this buy buying me 2 Mitchell 300s . I don't think she has realized that means I may have to purchase another cane rod now 😀

Welcome to the forum, Alan.

I grew up near Iver, and went to school in Slough, which was then in Bucks but now in Berks. Which lakes do you fish?
In answer to your questions: i) yes, the Mitchell 300 is an ideal real; ii) yes, you really do need another rod to fill out the collection; and iii)
put an Abu Cardinal 44 or 66, or even an Intrepid Elite on your birthday/Christmas list---they have a different feel, but life's too short not
to give them a whirl. Also, your wife is to be congratulated on her excellent choice of classic fixed spool reels.

Enjoy this delightful, friendly forum!
