I've a season ticket for the canal I think you are referring to, but haven't been up there this year.

Welcome Darrren, there's a good bunch of guys on here who will make you feel very welcome, and being an ex squadie myself I know only how well fishing can help with the RnR.

Welcome Darren, you've come to the right place if you are looking to fish in the old simple way, of minimum tackle, and maximum pleasure. I like you gave up on the "kitchen sink" type of angling, and found I actually got more pleasure catching fewer fish, with tackle that I had either made or renovated myself. It might sound silly, but it's the way to go, the simple fact of being on the water, enjoying your surroundings, with some fish thrown in for good measure. What more can you ask for :Thumb:
