Using an olivette for the lift method

Has anyone ever tried using an olivette rather than a split shot for the lift method, especially on a weedy lake bed?

I use them a lot for trotting shallow and/or weedy rivers. They are easy to adjust for depth, tend to get through weed and damage my line less. It's never occurred to me before but last weekend when I was having some problems fishing a lake with a fair amount of weed (though by no means unfishable), it suddenly dawned on me that they might serve me well with the lift method.

I'm going to try it this weekend but wondered if anyone else had?

Will it be a fixed or sliding one? A fixed would be just like a shot so no problem I can think of.

A sliding one could be used for float-ledgering in the same way as a ledger weight.

Fixed Olly, I have never been much of a fan of float ledgering!

It's just a weight so it will work in exactly the same was as a spilt shot DC. I've used Plasticine wrapped around a micro swivel when using a different hooklength, it all works.

If I'm baiting-up with hemp, I use weights made from solder-wire wrapped around a needle, blackened with a permanent marker, secured with float-tops.

I'm using sliding olivettes more as I want to reduce the number of shot I pinch on a line but my primary use for them is on Heaps style weighted slider float setups.

I have some large olivettes for use with sliding floats, I prefer Fox pop up weights for fishing the lift method, but I'm certain any weight of the right size will do the job, I find getting the depth right is more of an issue with the lift method.

I find great difficulty in getting the rubber stuff into the notch.

It will work as weight is weight no matter what you use ,
I use as little weight as possible
