ID and advice on this rod please

Post by The Oxford Angler »

I recently bought this Milwards rod and wondered if you might help me work out what it may be. I think it may be a trout rod, but what do I know???

It's 8ft long and quite tatty. Plan is to restore this so I can enjoy using it. As you can see from the pictures it needs a fair bit of work to make it presentable. I'd intend on using it with heavy tackle for carp/barbel as it's relatively stout in it's construction.

Any help appreciated

Well it looks very like an old Alcocks Lightcaster

So I would guess it is a very old spinning rod - pre posh rubber buttons and named rods!

Kingfisher had a longer even older and scruffier example!

It certainly looks like a spinning rod, nice and straight too.

This is from my 1938/9 Milwards book. I think the 8ft No 2600 rod looks just about spot on apart from the picture showing it with a rubber button but yours may have been an earlier or slightly later version.
