Craftversa by Andrew Davis

Post by DWW »

The recent talk of the Andrew Davis Craftversa and one coming up for sale got me interested in the rod and in actually owning one ! Then luck played her trump card in the form of Nobby having one for sale . So a few phone calls amd Pm's plus a visit to actually get to see the rod and its now mine . What a lovely thing !
So today was the day to give it a go and actually use it . Despite the rain !
I thought a trip after tench and perch at a local club pond might be a good test so a few prawns and a tin of sweetcorn were packed and the rod was matched with a Trudex and 6lb line .
The rod has a lovely agate butt ring in a colour that I have not seen before :

The rod is a lovely colour and the whipping and varnish sublime :

So it looks great but what will it be like to fish with ? Well it is balanced well by the little Trudex and feels great in the hand . But how would it react to a feisty tench or two ? To cut a long story short the rod was excellent ! It handled tench to about 4lb with no issues and I will use it on a couple of waters where the tench grow slightly bigger and the occasional interloping carp might make an appearance .

It will also get a use after perch as well , with the only one showing today putting up a great scrap !

All in all a lovely piece of kit . Thanks Nobby !

Splendid stuff DWW. Andrew restored my Craftversa to his usual very high standard and whilst I had to promise not to use it for Barbel fishing I have had a couple of low double carp on it all be it whilst seeking Crucians!!

Excellent. ....that's the rod I first waggled which prompted me to order one for myself
