These were sold on eBay at one time.
They were quite expensive ,never seen one in the flesh. Tbh the improvements did not sound that different from an original other than a spool change. Perhaps some one may no better have a word with chav .

I understood - vaguely - that the gearing had been re-worked.

An aluminium spool is available to all - I have a couple - of spools that is.

Wasn't there something about the spool position being altered so it cast further. I seem to remember the oscillation could be stopped in a certain position each time you cast to give the line a better flow from the spool over the edge of the winding cup.

I may have dreamed this of course and if so I'll go halves with anyone who markets it and gets incredibly rich from it. :Chuckle:

Although I still do not fully understand the mechanics of the modifications that Dave Plowman has made, I can vouch for the fact that the Plowman 507 that I own performs much better than the Abu 501 and 506 models that I used previously!

I have not looked inside my reel, but the vents in the cowling are taped over, it winds very smoothly and when you release the handle it returns to the "pointing down" position, if the reel that you have been offered seems the same I would say buy it!

I'd like to give it a try.
Most of my Abu reels have been trouble free for the most part anyway.
It was kind of their appeal in the first place, there being only three things in them, and one of those was a silver Abu sticker that never seemed to adhere properly.
Having said that, they are not quite idiot proof. Mine had a bad case of a loose cowling that kept coming off when I tried to put some line on.
It suddenly dawned on me to tighten the drag down. Problem solved.
It only took me 30 years to work that out.

All the best.
