An old man, who's only pleasure left in life, is sitting by some water, fiddling with his maggots?

Very tidy. That's a late Rapidex with 'bobble' cast reel body, plastic ratchet lever, embossed aluminium badge and tall centre-boss.

Tricky to date as the otherwise useful Allcocks Guides used the same image for years and other literature is rare.

For good reference to the JW Young range, one has to look no further than Mr Elwyn Attwood book - JW Young & Sons A century of the art of making fishing reels (Medlar press) It shows good examples of the early/later Rapidex range.....

Ps.. the later range also have "Ltd" on the ID badge on the back and no company details embossed on the centre hub...
