Sharpes Carp

Post by Beresford »

Over priced, in my view, but nice:

I suppose the premium price is because they are a pair in very similar condition. I note that they don't have lined tip and butt rings. From previous discussions here, I seem to recall there was a feeling that this might denote rods built right at the end of the period in which Sharpes offered these rods. Perhaps circa 1970.

That's about double the price I think they are worth!

The thing is they aren't that rare. OK a lot less were made than B. James MkIV but they do come up from time to time and none has ever sold for anything approaching this kind of money.

Still the postage is a bargain.

I hope they do sell at that price . . . my pair are in better condition !

I think it is rare for these rods to come on the market because their owners are very reluctant to sell them.

The Shapes Avon I have is near mint, better than these. It cost me £140 although that was a good few years ago. I think you'd have to be daft, desperate or very wealthy to pay £850 for a pair of these.
