Re: sharpes eight eight 2pc #6 & mated reel
The Sharpes Eighty Eight (not sure why yours says Eight Eight) was their standard river fly rod. Eight foot eight inches long they took a 5 weight line. I had one for a number of years from the early nineties before eventually selling it. Like many British fly rods of their day they were somewhat liesurely in action and it may take some getting used to if you're used to carbon rods.
Quot homines, tot sententiae.

This rod has #6 on it, I take it as being a 6 wt.
I have yet to fish it, though it came with a #6 intermediate line.
I've cast is out in the yard and it shoots very nicely. I find the difference in casting cane to graphite is slowing down your stroke.
I paid $200.00 cdn for the rod and reel, seemed like a fair price.
