Edgar Sealey Floatcaster Deluxe rod
Re: Edgar Sealey Floatcaster Deluxe rod
H mate you'll love it.
I sometimes feel mine is a little over gunning it when i'm fishing for small Cru's in Epping Forest, but I felt confident with it when fishing Lee's lake in Aveley back in the summer.

Hi Gaz... I'd be inclined to use my Sealey Match rod for forest pond Crucians, the 12' Floatcaster is a very powerful rod, as has been said... strong enough for Barbel & small to medium carp
Just one more cast love, and I'll be on me way home

The 11fter displays quite a bit of backbone when needed. This is it doing battle with a 7lb carp I accidentally hooked while tench fishing. The fight was a lot of fun.
The rod was fine, but it isn't built for fish with that kind of power in mind.

I always play big fish gently on cane for fear of causing a set or breakage....

Re: Edgar Sealey Floatcaster Deluxe rod
Well chaps I have had to move this thread from the 'Traditional Fishing Tackle That You Are Looking For' section to the 'Edgar Sealey & Sons Ltd' section of the forum as thanks to forum member Steve Middleton (TraditionalAngling) I have managed to get hold of an 11 footer, thank you Steve.
It is in need of a complete refurbishment but the rod has no major faults, so in a couple of days it will be off to Paul Cook who has agreed to undertake this task for me.

Mark, I understand the desire for a well restored rod. Especially for a fine rod like a floatcaster and I'm sure Paul will be the right man for the job but I urge you to have a go at rod restoration for yourself. Perhaps on something cheap like a Black Seal, Marco Test or Sealey NuFloat to start with. It really is a rewarding way to spend a few winter hours and is very enjoyable too. If your floats are anything to go by I'm sure results would be very good.

Floats are one thing MD but I prefer leaving my rods to the experts.MaggotDrowner wrote:Mark, I understand the desire for a well restored rod. Re: Edgar Sealey Floatcaster Deluxe rod
Fair enough, Mark. But if I can do it anyone can! It's not that complex at all really.
The only thing in rod restoration that scares me these days is heating to fix sets!
Good luck with the Floatcaster. Let us know how you get on with it when it is done and you have caught on it.
What species will you be going for with it?
