Hardy Richard Walker Avon
Just back from Redditch Fair, where I was able to collect this special rod. A couple of phone calls led me to this rod, which I believed may be perfect match for my Hardy 4in. 'Eureka' reel ... and first impressions now that it's home would seem to confirm it.
I can now say that this is my (rather lengthily named, but transcribed from the inscription) ' "The Richard Walker Avon." "Palakona." Hardy's of England! 1lb. c/s' ... with original bag ... and extra 'special' as it was made for one year only (I understand) ... 1969.
A full 10ft. 1in. when made up, and weighing it at a miserly 284gr. (10.00oz.) with it's 27.75in. handle, and still with it's original red tipped black whipping and clear agate lined tip guide ... it's in immaculate condition.
My thanks to the TFF member who has allowed me to become custodian of this lovely piece of angling history ... and yes, I will fish with it !!!

If I'd known that was in the bag you were carrying Mal, I'd have rugby tackled you to the ground and run off with it Gorgeous rod, enjoy it.

Spectacular acquisition, AC.
I will be out fishing this afternoon, but with the 1971 Fibalite version that replaced yours. Care to swap?

Well snaffled Mal!
I feel privileged just to have waggled it, a delicious piece of cane!

I walked across an empty land
I knew the pathway like the back of my hand
I felt the earth beneath my feet
Sat by the river and it made me complete.

That's absolutely lovely Sir, is that inscription ink or a decal? I do wish I could write like that. A fine rod
