I was very lucky to be GIVEN one of these rods a year or so ago. They seem to be quite rare, most Mk IV Avons being of B.James manufacture. You just do not seem to see them anywhere for sale. Mine was originally purchased in Manchester, probably in the late 60's. I am told there was a Hardy's shop , or at least a Hardy's specialist dealer there at the time. I do enjoy using it , mainly for grayling on small rivers, where the short (by modern standards) length is ideal for getting between the overhanging trees. A pleasure to use indeed. If it works, the following link shows the rod, attached to a nice male grayling.

A very nice rod indeed.

Thank you. The rod is doing very well for me.

Ashbycut: very much enjoyed the humour. Unfortunately my wife does the lottery: a catholic, she says the Pope appears in her dreams and gives her the numbers. If he cannot get it right, I am sure I won't be able to help.

I'm not so sure about that having been aware of three for sale in recent months, all were advertised on-line at one point. One was removed and that's the rod that Mal is now the proud owner of. One has been sold by a dealer for a ridiculous amount of money and one remains unsold in poor condition and is over-priced by a factor of about three. I'm told they made more Carp versions than Avons but the former seem harder to find. They do come up from time to time. I don't know how many Hardy built – a few hundred of each I expect. Being Hardy one would have thought they stood a good chance of being looked after and surviving.

April '67 manufactured according to the PDFs thoughtfully provided here. 50 years old next year. It will be in action on its birthday methinks. Sadly not for grayling.
