Fascinating post The "perfection roach" is one on my own wish list. Look forward to the finished photos.
With regard to the alloy reel fittings sliding down to the button I have a Hardy Ideal Roach that has a matching alloy fixed narrow ring 4 or 5 inches from the handle end which does the job perfectly - this does seem to be an original fitting.
Perhaps not an original feature on your rods but as you are now faced with a restoration a neat solution maybe?
Hope the remainder of the project goes well.

Crucian: Let me know the diameter of the corked handles. I'm sure I can help with near Hardy reel bands. Plum.

Rewhipped and ready to go.
Feels lovely, so light and well balanced. Can't wait to use it now if this rain ever stops.

Brilliant Paul, well done mate. Some high end skill there and very happy to see what you have done and knowing you will get a lot of fishing pleasure from the rod. I am chuffed at the results-All's well that ends well as they say.
