I don't know the weight but it certainly is well balanced, depending on reel choice etc.etc. A good one can cost anything from £60 to £150 depending on source.

One of the best 'Avon' style rods ever made in my opinion. I would not part with mine.
Perfectly balanced.
More info here although the weight is not included.

Re: Chapman's 500
The Standard 500 has chrome rings throughout - upgrading/restoring to a 500 D/L gives an extra intermediate ring - plus:-
""Chapman 500 De-Luxe supplied in same format as the above rod but having Aqualite butt and end ring with chrome intermediates, and divisional cloth bag.""
A lovely rod for fish to about 5-6lb, roach, tench, plus smaller barbel & carp. Even float-fishing!
Prices vary from about £70 as is - upwards to £175 for an excellent restoration.
I will try and weigh one soon.

Goodness! That's a huge fish on a 500, I caught a 12 lb carp on mine and thought it was going to shatter into a trillion pieces. Just shows how good a cane rod is at taming a large fish. Hats off also to your angling skills sir, that was quite an achievement landing a fish that size on 3lb line and a size 16 hook!!

Re: Chapman's 500
That's some fish. Amazing on such light tackle.
Reelmaker,
If you can find one an Allcocks Harvey Torbett is a very similar rod but I actually prefer it to the 500. The HT has a slightly lighter tip but with a little more guts in the butt section. It's the same two piece plus handle like the 500 but it differs by having a very nice sliding locking reel seat. If you look at the very first page in the "Your latest Traditional Angling Purchase" thread you'll see images of my rod. It was restored by Clive Young before I bought it. It's not the finest most subtle restoration but given the rod was marketed as an upmarket 'boys' (and presumably girls as well!) rod, Clive's work is fitting. I paid £125 for it. A good deal I thought.

Blimey Lee, congratulations mate! Landing a 12 pounder on mine gave me the screaming abjabs! That was 3 maggots on a 14 hook and 6lb bottom!
