The Royston

Post by Mötti »

Dear all,

I was able to buy a 11ft rod with whole cane butt "The Royston". Does anyone have information about this rod? I saw there is a city with this name in north direction from Ware. Maybe build for a customer from this city? At the moment I can't send any picture, because the picture I have are not made by my self.

Kind Regards
Mötti

Royston is a small market town. Chapmans used various local rivers and places to inspire the names for their rods.

I have one called The Broxbourne which is another local name but that is by Milwards.

As Beresford has stated most of their rods were named after places & rivers local to Ware where they were manufacturing their rods. After all they were called " R Chapman & Co of Ware Herts"

Rivers:- Beane, Stort, Chess, etc
Places:- Amwell, Royston, Broxbourne, Shelford, etc

Dear all,
thank you for your answers. I found a PDF with the Chapman catalogue from 1961-1962 where "The Royston" is part of. Bye the way, if it's for someone from interest, all rods with names from the small villages (450, 500, 550, 600, 700... did I forget one?) are not part of this catalogue. It looks like the concept of this models with small transport size has been introduced later.
Kind Regards
