Reading between the lines on the website I think the 2pc versions came first.

As a business Chapmans were very smart cookies when it came to optimising their production...

The 550 and 600 share the same butt section and butt ferrule size meaning both the butts and the handles were harmonised.

The Ledgerstrike 2 piece blank was also the blank used for the FJ Taylor roach rod - simply by adding a removable handle

The Amwell, Amwell SP and Shelford were all the same blank.

Lean manufacturing ahead of its time.

I think the separate handle versions were simply to make the rods easier to transport, certainly more car door friendly in those days of small cars and no hatchbacks. I think they feel better in action too.

This was one of the thingsI loved about my 500 as a kid - it was just the right size to tie to my crossbar before I cycled off to the Lea each weekend in search of the monster perch of my dreams.

List of rods on their website:-
Chapman rods from 1950.
2 Piece Bottom Rods.

The “Chapman 500” 10′ 2 piece Avon style rod 1960.
The “Chapman 550 ” 10′ 3 piece Carp rod 1960 -1970
The “Chapman Dennis Pye 700 10′ 3 piece Pike Rod 1960 – 1970
The “Peter Stone 600 ” 10′ 3 piece Ledger rod 1965 1970
The MkIV Avon or light Carp rod 1 lbs T.C.
The MkIV Carp rod 1-1/2 lbs T.C.
The “Peter Stone Ledgerstrike 10′ 2 piece Ledger rod

So no the "Carp" rod is a separate rod to either the 500 Avon style rod or the 550 Carp rod.

Nothing about Quintette range which may have not been mass produced!

Olly if you read at the bottom of the 550 details it say,s

" 1960 Catalogue description. This rod has the precise action and test curve of a standard Carp, but is supplied in two 3’ 11” lengths with detachable handle.

Also Chapman,s only made 50 ish. Quinnette Mk8 rods

Some more rods listed here
