why is a Chapman 500 so called?

Post by Jeremy Croxall »

whilst varnishing my recently acquired Chapman 500, I began to wonder what the "500" signifies, any one know?
"Oh for want of rod and line I'd fish this stream serene, sublime".

It's because the maker used a Mitchel 300 and added together the numbers reminded him of the time he saw a fat lady chasing two hula hoops :tea:

Because it's 50 didgets less than a 550 carp rod and 50 didgets not as strong that's what I think anyway :Hahaha: mike :whistle:

Since we're going down the silly route, it was an idea that came to him at 5.00 o'clock then blow me down if he didn't have another at 10 to 6 the same day. :whistle:

I understand it was during a telephone conversation with a customer which went something like this;

Caller;
Do you have a 10ft 2 piece Avon rod with a separate handle and about 1lb test curve

John Chapman
You must be the 499th person that has asked me that, and currently I don't :Wink:
