The Best Looking Rod Ever——-Probably.

Post by Fredline »

I have just bought this 16’ 4 piece T.H Sowerbutts Lightning rod in its dedicated bag and it is probably the best looking vintage rod I have ever seen. It is in stunning condition, arrow straight and all original with just a couple of the wraps discoloured at the ring contact and a little scratching where the rod rest was used. The colour combination is superb.

If you have no grease with you, and your rings are full of ice, do not cut out the ice with a pen-knife but get your man to put the rings one by one in his mouth, and so to thaw the ice.

The JPS Lotus of Sowerbutts; very nice too. You'll enjoy using that I think.

:Thumb: That is a beauty! Do let us know how you get on with it. A photo, or two, with colour coordinated fish attached, would be good

Having seen this rod 'in the flesh' it is indeed stunning!

Very nice! Painted reed or whole cane? At 16ft does it live up to its name?

Painted whole cane and it is quite heavy so "Lightning" it isn't.

My Lightning had the same colour whipping .... until i took it off to rewhip the rod.

Turned out the actual colour was Black and Silver

Now that is a surprise. From silver to gold.

Here,s another Sowerbutts rod where the whipping has changed colour from Black/Silver to Black /Gold.

Well not exactly the whipping .... it,s the varnish that,s yellowed.
