My Sabina has a very soft action and would be at home catching roach, crucians and perch, which is its intention.

I am in the process of restoring a Dawsons of Bromley Sabrina. It is 10ft-6in long and lovely dark springy cane.
Its a fairly powerful float rod with a bit more power than a Chapman 500.

Did anyone find out what the difference was if any between the Sabrina and the Sabina.

I dont know if they could do this but wondered if maybe the name Sabrina was copyrighted because of the Audrey Hepburn film of the same name and Dawsons were told not to use it so they simply dropped the r.

Any thoughts gents.

I seem to recall it was thought there was no difference other than the name.
Possibly a spelling mistake on the labels?

I always considered it a medium/heavy float rod that could run to medium ledger work too, tench bream, chub and barbel to less than 10lb, a nice rod, and one i let slip through my fingers through the desire to get another rod at the time, a bit lighter than a Marco arun and a bit softer in the top half. A rod still on my to get (and keep this time) list

The sabrina and sabina i think were the same blank tapers but sabrina had an extra guide i think, although the one i saw had been restored so not as original maybe, bast to see if Mr Dawson has more information in his book

This is how I always think of the classic sabrina rod.


The legend of Sabrina relates to how the river got its name of Severn, first the Welsh name Habren which later became Hafren, translated into English became Sabren, then Sabrina and finally Severn.

Whoever put in the winning bid got good value for money.

It was me TOB, I just couldn't resist it. I have just finished restoring a 10ft-6 Sabrina and it is outstandingly good cane.
This one looks the same dark cane but it is a 12ft version so I thought it would be nice to own both. I just hope its as good when it arrives as I dont normally like built cane rods of over 11ft long, they tend to feel a bit top heavy..I have a feeling it will end up getting the longer handle treatment..

Well done Wal. I was watching it and would have bought it but I can't justify another rod. I have a soft spot of the dark Dawson's cane. My Medina is an excellent margin rod. Enjoy
