Just to show what's possible.

Post by Shaun Harrison »

Just to show what is possible even in the poor winters we have had over the past few years someone who I am proud to call my friend has achieved a truly remarkable feat of carp angling by catching a carp off the surface for 48 consecutive months!

Four years of catching a carp on a floating bait on the surface in every single calendar month, despite several of the worst freeze ups for years.

I take my hat off to Pete Springate :Hat:

Nice fish! A rare big carp that is well proportioned and not ugly!

I remember reading something about this what must have been a year ago now. Truely an impressive feat, and a lovely scaley carp in that photo. Well in Sir Pete, one of the all time greats :Hat:

He has been there, done it all, caught the largest and still can't get enough of it. A true angler in every way shape and form.

Perhaps if he wants a great challenge he should take up fly-fishing and try to catch all the different coarse fish in one year!

To catch carp on the surface in every month of the year is certainly an impressive feat.
I enjoy catching carp on the surface but I only ever have any sucess when the weather is very warm and the sun is shining,so hats off to Pete.
Stalking in the warm sunshine is really exciting but just cannot get my head around trying it in the winter.

There is only so much time in ones life, Pete does a lot more angling than just carp.

I'm sure he does, I didn't mean that comment in any derogatory way whatsoever! Just that, that challenge is one that my son took up a few years ago on the Thames, only to fail at miserably. He did, however, manage a gudgeon, some dace, perch and chub (and perhaps a roach), but he got side tracked (by a girl) and only went on a few trips fly-fishing for coarse species.

A fine achievement for Pete Springate :Hat:
I remeber reading about him the press a couple of years back regarding his success with carp off the top in the winter.

I do so enjoy catching carp off the surface I think I will try to catch them on the surface through the winter as well.
There is no peace on earth like the peace of fishing in the early mornings
