dorset stour
going to the stour at muscliffe mid week,as i only fish with a float and pin,any advice on bait or tactics would help,as ive never fished it before.many thanks ,chubman.
Re: dorset stour
I believe the Muscliffe stretch gets quite busy due to it being one of only a couple of free stretches on the Stour (other one at Longham) and with it being school holidays, mid week may be no quieter.
I fish the opposite bank on the RDAA book but have not ventured there yet this year. Club reports mentioned roach and chub earlier this season but there have been no reports for the past few weeks.
The Throop fishery (day ticket), about a mile or so downstream, however has had quite an impressive tally the last few days. You can read the Throop report written by the club bailiff on the NEWS section on www.ringwoodfishing.co.uk.
Hope you have a good day, wherever you choose.

Re: Dorset Stour/Muscliff Northbourne
This stretch of the Dorset Stour is always worth a look. Brecon Close has parking and is accessible from New Road this will give you some two miles of river to wander from the southern bank with the flow running from left to right. A good choice is to travel light using maggots for better still bread flake and mush in the winter months, some of the middle sections contain good roach with chub throughout. In the late summer months and early autumn "Hemp & Tares" will produced good bags on mixed fish along with the odd heavy dace and roach. Parking at Redhill behind the roundabout or at Muscliffe/Granby Road Nature Reserve will access the river at its middle section. The whole river is now classed as a "Nature Reserve" with access to the public along with dog walkers, so beware on tackle and bait bags, no loosed baited hooks left on the bank as these will be snaffled up by a passing pooch. Heavy roach and chub along with the odd good double figured barbel are always a possibility. As with all free fishing areas on the stour, I would not recommend visits during the school holidays as things can get very manic.
The good angler is not the one with expensive equipment. Common sense, observation and trying to realize
what is happening above and below water will catch fish no matter what price equipment you fish with.

Not often I get to say " fished it " so there you have it.
Around 2000 it was as a pre cursor to fishing Throop - seem to recall we caught Chub and Chublets

Re: dorset stour
Middle section of the Dorset Stour fishing well over the last few weeks too long trotting with bread flake, best chub this month 6lb 10oz from a four fish swim. Active mobile approach works well, moving down stream to follow your bread mush ground bait, this can be thickened with a few bars of weetabix along with some powered milk to induce an inviting cloud. Heavy shot bunched low on the cast toward the hook with take the flake to the fish on a good sized hook, my preference is a No.8 Sedge hook (Kamasan B420) tied direct to 5lb 3oz line.

Is that a day ticket stretch? What a lovely looking river.Stour Otter wrote:This stretch of the Dorset Stour is always worth a look. Lovely fish SO! We'll see what the same method produces on the Swale on Friday.
