I needed a river Soar fix today so I grabbed my binoculars, some bread and sweetcorn, a bottle of pop and some sandwiches for myself and set off to spend three lovely hours just wandering the bank feeding the chub and whatever else was interested in my bait. I had the place all to myself, I never saw another human while I was there. Roll on the 16th as these pictures show where I will be spending the day fishing, this is just one small section of the Soar.

Beautiful Mark! What a place to open your river season, if the fishing is half as good as the surroundings then you'll be ecstatic

That first photo is very Constable -esque!
Just needs a horse and cart in the middle of the river, and an old mill on the bank ...

Re: River Soar today
A few chub around the three pound mark Dave and something really big on the far side in the shallow water under the trees. It was either a barbel or carp of which both are few on the Soar. If a barbel does get caught they are all double figures but in the next couple of seasons a load of small barbel are going to be introduced.

Yes, I think I can see the attraction.
The place looks stunning Mark, you must be itching to cast a line after that. Lovely photos.
