Hi,
Could anyone give advice in terms of locations, methods & tips for fishing in the Lake District.
I am visiting the area in July, staying near Lake Windermere, nearby the River Leven.
It has been rather a while since I fly-fished (as a teenager on the River Dee in North Wales), however I intend to give a try! I have only a non-migratory trout and coarse licence. What are the rules / etiquette if one is not intentionally targeting sea trout and salmon.
I would like to try for brown trout on a remote tarn or stream ... preferably away from all the tourists, surrounded by mountains and trees, with birds of prey hovering overhead.
Whilst on the lakes, I would also try with my spinning rod.
On my return, I promise to report back with some pictures.

I suspect Scott will be along shortly with much invaluable advice, Sion. If not, drop him a PM.

I envy you your trip. I was due to go there tomorrow but unfortunately I've had to cancel.
There's plenty of advice on http://www.lakedistrictfishing.net/ and if travel a little further there's some good value fishing available from the Penrith club http://www.penrithanglers.co.uk/

The links provided by Craycrane are worth looking at but Penrith Angler's waters are quite a way from where you're staying. I'd have to disagree with Firebird about Ullswater being the best for trout, in spring maybe but overall it has to be Haweswater though again that's quite a drive from Windermere. Spinning for perch on Windermere or Ullswater will be pretty good at that time of year I'd imagine, if you can find them. If you're wanting to fish with your lad you could do worse than booking a day with Eric Hope for some great perch fishing... He'll look after you...

I had some good fishing on the Greta, some 10 years ago. Permit was available in Keswick. Local anglers were very friendly and helpful. There was/is Salmon in the river, too. Best, Bobby
