Pebley pond (Derbyshire/Yorkshire border) private?
We were passing by the other day so I stopped by to have a look. On the approach road there's a sign which says 'Private - Anglers Only Past This Point' (of course as an angler I kept on going) and elsewhere I've seen a mention that this is now a private fishery. Does anybody know the actual state? It used to be day ticket, has this changed?

This one: https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@53.30618 ... 720685,16z in Derbyshire, mentioned several times in Rickards and Webb Fishingfor Big Tench. The last guide entry for it (five years ago) gives a telephone number that no longer works for a business that no longer appears to be functioning.Nobby wrote:Which Pebley Pond do you mean?, .... there appears to be several over the country.

Ah, the 'res'..that gets a few hits you've probably already tried:

It seems that fishing tackle shop has closed down.
These folk appear to have drained it last year...they'd at least know who has the current rights, maybe?

That is the most recent post I can find on the net.....unless they re-stocked it may be dead for a few years yet.

Interesting. Oldest canal reservoir in the country dating from the year of the American Declaration of Independence. Who'd have thought? When I visited, there were clear remains of the contractor's site and also signs that there had been quite a bit of draining lately with the water was still several feet below the normal level. The article claims that they drew down to 10% of capacity which meant they didn't have to electrofish or aereate so in theory the stock should still be there. There were certainly recent signs up about pike fishing. I'll pursue this further and check with the CWT as well.Nobby wrote:Ah, the 'res'..that gets a few hits you've probably already tried:

Arh Pebley, still going with an active carp fishing group, done a few 30lb now. Still regarded as a harder water than most in the area. Used to be a water of local repute for monster pike, don't think it ever produced any particularly big fish. Been drained numerous times in the past. What you want to be interested in is the rudd fishing in the small pool across the road. Some very nice fish in there (or there was) quite possibly started as live baits and got spared!
I have laid aside business, and gone a'fishing.

I checked with the CWT. Apparently there were no fish transfers or deaths as a resul of the recent works and their contact for fishing there is a Norman Somerset on 0777 981 3355. I'll try him and see what happens.Nobby wrote:http://wwtonline.co.uk/info/ContactUs

Yes, the online forums have quite a few people going on about how hard it is and how they prefer some commercial down the road. Whoever said that fishing was supposed to be easy?Hovis wrote:Arh Pebley, still going with an active carp fishing group, done a few 30lb now. Still regarded as a harder water than most in the area.
