What a day

Post by John Aston »

Fabulous grayling sport today on .ermm.. a Yorkshire river. For years my best grayling was 2-2; had a 2-4 last month so that was progress. But today- amazing. I wanted to christen my gorgeous new Harrison GTi 12' trotting rod and after a blank on saturday , on somewhere I have never blanked in twenty years I was determined to catch. Second pool I hit a fish which felt like a brick wall -2-6. Overjoyed. Next cast , same pool 2-9! Bloody hell. Moved pool , first cast 2-6.... :Sun: 5 other smaller ones caught and a bigger fish lost. On trotted dendrobena on a 12 and a 4AA Drennan chub float. I am now about to have a VERY large drink.

Well done, Sir !

We found a bottle of Veuve Cliquot lurking in spare room cupboard. And toasted Thymallus and Harrison and the enormously skilled captor of course...

Well done! Fishing is always at it's best when one does not have to try hard to catch but just have to turn up and wet a line, yet still have to practice our skills to make the most of the day! And well done again Sir, sounds like you had one of those rare magical days that I've told my friends about only to be told "funny how you always have your best days when we're not with you". And so may those rare days continue!
