Gaiters?

Post by LuckyLuca »

Do any of you fine gentlemen wear gaiters?
Is there anything to look out for or avoid when purchasing them ?
I walked across an empty land
I knew the pathway like the back of my hand
I felt the earth beneath my feet
Sat by the river and it made me complete.

I don't wear them fishing but have a pair for walking. The only thing I can think of, is to watch how they are secured. Mine are pretty old and secured with a lace at the top (backed up by elastic). At the bottom there is a small alloy clip to secure to the laces of the boot. This is a bit fragile. I presume newer ones will have a better system

Yes, I have a wonderful pair of heavy waxed canvas gaiters. Excellent for keeping the trousers clean and the bottoms of your legs warm. I think they're ex-army.

Wouldn't have been without mine especially this year. All the pairs I've bought over the years have had the elastic/laces at the back with a clip at the bottom to attach to your boots. This seems to work perfectly. I guess it's the same as anything; you get what you pay for. Would definitely recommend them.

I have green heavy duty nylon ones from the 1980s from my hill walking days. Not put them on in 20 years though as I went hi-tec ( :Hide: ) and for fishing I wear wellies when wet/muddy and walking boots when dry.

I wear wellies nearly all the time when fishing, as most of time I'm stalking on overgrown banks which are often wet, boggy or marshy with puddles, and quite fequently I end up standing in the water at the edge.

Wellies I find hard to get comfortable ones without spending silly money. Walking boots give me the support I need.
I usually wear waterproofs and Wailking boots, but wondered if gaiters wouldnt provide extra comfort and water resistance?
