48 inch chest, Michael...that means I usually need at least 52inches armpit to armpit and that usually means 2xl or xxl depending on the system the maker uses.

The problem with most waistcoats is that they are lined...that really isn't a waistcoat, that's a body warmer in my opinion. I'm after something to add extra storage without extra insulation in Summer.

I know what you mean Nobby, these are medium/large anyway........

Its not so much a waistcoat, but a British Army Assault Tactical Vest and brilliant for storage, I`ve one of these in the DPM pattern. It has a breathable back and removable storage pockets, so you can have as many or few pockets as you wish, its also designed to spread the weight evenly on you back & shoulders, if you should be carrying more than normal. The rear pockets are large enough to carry a water canteen...

As my waistcoat is giving up on me, this thread got me looking around for an alternative.

I've taken a punt and just bought a 'Trespass' brand waistcoat from their outlet store on a well known auction site. Hopefully I won't be breaking forum rules by posting a link, as the waistcoats are offered new and on a buy-it-now basis http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/271538207492? ... EBIDX%3AIT. It might perhaps have been the sort of thing Nobby is looking for, but unfortunately they are only available up to size L.

When it arrives I'll report back what I think of it.

I've been really happy with this company and the garments wear very well. I have both cotton and leather versions although I can't see the cotton models on their web site.
