In the image of Mr Yates, he is wearing an unfolded slouch hat with furled cloth hatband of the type used by the Aussie Army in the First World War and similar to some issued in the Second World War to the Chindits.

You could always opt for a Tilley.

I now prefer Tarp hats , very practical for fishing, not expensive, and each one is unique:

There is no peace on earth like the peace of fishing in the early mornings

I always thought Yates was a Fedora man. I have many hats my favorite for fishing being either my Barbour crushable bushman or this...

There seems to be a significant difference of opinion between milliners as to what actually signifies a fedora.

Generally speaking ( and that's all you can be when talking about hats ) I think our more usual choice of fishing hat is more wide-brimmed than a fedora.

Just look at these:

Yet Wiki would tell you Terry Pratchett wears one...oh no he doesn't:

It's interesting to note that both Messr. Yates and Pratchett are somewhat follicly challenged.

I do like those tarp hats and the Mrs says I'm begining to become slightly follicly challenged. I don't believe a word myself!
