Hello All,

Never having been a member of the Red Spinners I didn't have the privilege of ever seeing Cheshunt. There are, however, amongst my collection a few relevant photographs, either given me by Gerry Berth-Jones or passed on to me after the sad passing of Bill Keal and, years later, Alec Lewis, by Alec's widow, Margaret.

This photo, therefore, may be of some interest:



It shows Bill Keal outside the Cheshunt hut, which I believe he shared with Alec Lewis. (Probably the same hut shown in one of the previous pictures).

The landing nets are Alec's B.James & Son's, on the left, the other being Bill's specially made tulip shaped, cane armed example.

Hello All,

One final picture prior to the Christmas recess.

A picture that, at least to me, sums up the spirit of angling, seemingly now lost for ever, that once existed on the banks of our waters, particularly within early carp fishing circles.




The negative from which this image was taken was given me by the late Gerry Berth-Jones.

It shows a little notice board at Cheshunt that informs other anglers the pitch has been pre-baited; once in place ALL other anglers would respect, and not fish near the notice.

I suspect this picture dates from the early- to mid-1950's.

Sorry, I don't recognise the angler. Anybody?

Whilst searching for something else, came across a couple of further Cheshunt pics. which may interest some.

The first is a Cheshunt crucian from Alec Lewis' camera; the actual shot used to illustrate one of Bill Keal's articles in Creel magazine.



This second picture shows Bill Keal and Donald Leney introducing small carp at one of the Cheshunt restockings. Again, the shot came from Alec's Rollieflex.
