I think you may be correct Paul F in that the seller may not have realised their significance, 'just another old set of floats' - I too had to let them climb out of my reach though I am certain the lucky buyer is delighted.

Given the much discussed serious chemical treatment that my basic reading suggests the quills underwent to be transformed into such wonderful floats, I wonder if the buyer is praying to the gods of angling that they aren't like 16th and 17th century Venetian glass ……… turning to dust over time.

I thought this was a new post, thank God is isn't as I trawl the bay for these things.
I have plenty of those threaded float caps but no floats!.
