Cut them as close as you can with sharp scissors and then run the side of a stanley blade along the spines. They will be removed fairly easily this way.

I'd always advocated stripping the hurl downwards by hand, an inch at a time, but starting at the bottom. This so often rips the body open though that I'm now inclined to cut that first bit, along with the fluffy down, off with a scalpel blade moving upwards.

I cut the feathers as close as possible to the quill with a pair of small scissors and then sand the quill using very fine sand paper.Buller wrote:Can someone help here please.

Thats exactly what I have done this morning and have done the whippings, just need to paint the tip and varnish and I think its looking rather good for my first homemade quill float :DMark wrote:I cut the feathers as close as possible to the quill with a pair of small scissors and then sand the quill using very fine sand paper.Buller wrote:Can someone help here please.

Scissors, razor blade, followed by medium grained wet & dry paper (dry). Good luck!!
